DeletePSQs enable one to be emotionally balanced and reach out to others. These qualities help one to appreciate others perspectives, backgrounds and therefore conflicts are more easily resolved. This in turn enables the student to learn and thrive in the academic environment. In Secondary Stage learners who face conflicting emotions due to the storm and stress of Adolescence, developing PSQs in the students by the teacher will enable them to empathise with their peers, parents, siblings, teachers etc. It will help in resolving conflicts and building self esteem
DeletePersonal-Social Qualities are essential for conflict resolution, constructive creativity and contentment. The individual exists in a social environment and reacts to the surroundings as a way of finding purpose and justifying that purpose. PSQ is an invaluable help in that. It is an essential aspect of us being fully functional beings and social beings. Yes, PSQ helps in learning by allowing us to learn, unlearn and relearn. It helps us to connect with others by going beyond our preconceived notions, biases and prejudices. Yes, teachers play a role by being a facilitator and a role model for the learners. Teachers act as counsellors and guides. It can also be said that at this level the teacher also plays the role of the friend, philosopher and guide. The teenage is a time of 'stress and strain' and the teacher helps the learner find a way out of the maze by helping in the creation of a positive and supportive classroom environment.

So, they need to be reminded that teachers are there to help them out. That is why teachers play a very important role in developing and practicing the PSQs in secondary stage learners.

ReplyDeletePersonal-Social Qualities are essential for conflict resolution, constructive creativity and contentment. The individual exists in a social environment and reacts to the surroundings as a way of finding purpose and justifying that purpose. PSQ is an invaluable help in that. It is an essential aspect of us being fully functional beings and social beings. Yes, PSQ helps in learning by allowing us to learn, unlearn and relearn. It helps us to connect with others by going beyond our preconceived notions, biases and prejudices. Yes, teachers play a role by being a facilitator and a role model for the learners. Teachers act as counsellors and guides. It can also be said that at this level the teacher also plays the role of the friend, philosopher and guide. The teenage is a time of 'stress and strain' and the teacher helps the learner find a way out of the maze by helping in the creation of a positive and supportive classroom environment.

ReplyDeleteThe school environment creates a context for the students to develop their PSQs, which influences their learning and behavior. Feelings and emotions play a significant role in how students approach learning and what is learned. Positive feelings, such as happiness, joy, excitement, etc., enhance motivation and facilitate learning and performance. Negative feelings and emotions, such as anger, sadness, guilt, rage, insecurity and related feelings like fear of punishment, ridicule, stigmatizing labels, generally detract from motivation and interfere with learning. It is, therefore, important to recognize that students come to the classrooms with emotions and a predisposition about being a student. Fostering a positive classroom climate is essential for students to feel safe and accepted.
When teachers show that they are interested to know and help students, care about them, students not only feel safe and secure emotionally but also try to replicate such qualities in their day-to-day interactions. Therefore, there is a need for teachers to understand the importance of these qualities and skills as a vital support for learning and holistic development of learners. , during the secondary stage when learners are going through adolescent years of development, the role of teachers becomes even more important. During this stage, teachers not only play the role of a provider of in-depth knowledge about different disciplines but also provide information about different career options. Teachers also play the role of a guide by helping them explore and identify their own selves (their strengths, interests, values, attitude, resources, etc.), which help them define their identity. Though adolescent learners in the secondary stage look forward to peer recognition and acceptance all the time (be it in how they look, dress, have friendship with, play games, spend leisure time, etc.) but in a conflicting situation it is the teacher they look up to and seek help from to resolve the conflict. Thus, in many ways teachers of learners in the secondary stage play a significant role in shaping their personality and facilitating them to establish their identity.

ReplyDeletePSQs are certain qualities or skills which help to develop and maintain effective Personal and social relationships. Human being is a social being. So every now and then one interacts with the society. Without such skills life would be miserable when one will find rejected.
ReplyDeleteA teacher must have such qualities without which he/she will not be able to understand the student which is the basis of a teacher -student relationship. To be a friend philosopher and guide for the student, on evert step these qualities will help the student to develop positive perspectives and behaviour.
Secondary stage students are adolescents. Utmost care need to be taken to address their problems by understanding the feeling of such growing children. Teacher must apply PSQs more efficiently and effectively to keep children in right track.
PSQs play an important role in the life of every individual. Without these qualities it will be very difficult to survive. At all levels one must be cooperative, caring, emotionally sound, well versed with social norms, beliefs and positive attitude towards everyone. When we are dealing with students as a teacher then these qualities are definitely going to help them. One who is caring, understanding, Cooperative, strong inter personal relationship definitely being loved and respected by his or her students. ReplyDeletePSQ enable us to understand things from our view point and from the perspective of others. Then we don't straightaway reject other's views, but respect it and express their own viewpoint. This enhances our understanding others, accepting various views about the same thing and qualities like kindness, empathy, love for all, patience, courage etc.
PSQs are essential 'tools' for rapport building between the teacher and taught ,between peers and student and school ! Students who feel connected to the teacher and vice versa are able to communicate more openly and freely than when not connected emotionally. This openness in turn paves the way to understanding one another's roles as students /school/teacher. Student and teacher feel like partners in the classroom .This can also help in nurturing peer learning and appreciation of one another.
